What is Worcestershire sauce?

Worcestershire sauce, also known as Worcester sauce, is a liquid seasoning added to the food and drink recipes to improve their taste. It is named after the city of Worcester in Worcestershire, England, where it was created in the early 1800s. Its original recipe includes barley malt vinegar, spirit vinegar, molasses, sugar, salt, anchovies, tamarind extract, shallots, garlic, spices and flavorings. However, there are some variations among the recipes of different Worcestershire sauce brands.

Their taste is very similar with some subtle differences. Since Dijon mustard is made with black mustard seeds, it is spicier than the regular mustard made with white and yellow seeds. Dijon mustard is also creamier than the regular one and contains less vinegar.

Can I use regular mustard instead of Dijon mustard?

Absolutely. Since their taste and texture are very similar, you can use regular mustard instead of Dijon mustard. Just add the same amount of regular mustard as the Dijon mustard amount in the recipe.

Maple syrup is made by boiling the sap of maple trees to remove water and thus leave the sugary substance behind which creates the maple syrup. 40 gallons of maple tree sap is required to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.

This is a very easy recipe that yields a delicious and attractive dish at the end. It uses chicken thighs, the upper part of the chicken legs but the lower parts, the drumsticks, can also be used in this recipe. However, you should keep in mind that the chicken thighs are meatier than drumsticks. There is no marinating in this recipe so it can serve as a very quick and delicious meal. Hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil

  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder

  • 2 tablespoons onion powder

  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 8 chicken thighs, bone-in

Directions

  1. Preheat the air fryer by selecting the “Chicken” function and adjusting the timer to 3 minutes. Once you press the “Start/Pause” button it will begin warming up.

  2. Add olive oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, Dijon mustard, maple syrup and chicken thighs into large zipper bag and rub the seasoning very well onto chicken thighs.

  3. Open the zipper bag and arrange the chicken thighs on two mash racks.

  4. Open the air fryer, insert the oil drip tray at lowest rack, place the mash racks with chicken thighs in, and close the air fryer.

  5. Set the timer to 25 minutes. Once you press the “Start/Pause” button, it will start cooking.

  6. Cook the chicken thighs until they turn golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. You should flip them halfway through cooking.

  7. Open the air fryer, remove the chicken thighs onto a serving platter and let them rest for 10 minutes.

  8. Serve the chicken thighs warm.

  9. Enjoy!
